Affordable Tote, Great Cause!

A couple weeks ago while meeting up with my mom, she said, "I have a bunch of stuff in my car for you!"

Now, I don't know about your mom, but when my mom tells me this, I am a teeny bit scared. A bunch of stuff can range from a box of my childhood artwork to a bag of wedding clippings she's been saving since I was 4.

Well, this time, I was pleasantly surprised...

She gave me this darling Marimekko Avon Crusade Tote. Just $10, this tote was designed by the fantastic Finnish designer Marimekko exclusively for Avon. All net profits (about $6.24) go directly to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade.

At $10, you can pick up a bag or two as a Christmas gift and maybe even one for yourself (that is, if you subscribe to the "One for You, One for Me School of Christmas Shopping Thought" like I do).

I used mine last week as a carry-on for my trip to Chicago. It held my MacBook, a couple magazines, a paperback AND my handbag. How's that for roomy? Also, it zips closed, which is perfect for stowing under your seat.

Brides Against Breast Cancer

So, as it turns out, I'm getting married. We've set a date, secured a wedding venue and are well on our way to choosing a caterer. Now it seems, I need a dress. My taste in wedding dresses has proven to be a bit more expensive than I'd like, and to keep to my budget, I've been looking for ways to find an awesome gown for not that much money.

 

Enter Brides Against Breast Cancer. Brides Against Breast Cancer is a nationwide fundraising event for the Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation. Making Memories grants wishes to both women and men who are losing their battles to breast cancer. Brides Against Breast Cancer puts on huge sales of new and used bridal gowns, bridesmaids and flower girl dresses throughout the country. A little birdie told me that there are many $5000 gowns marked down to just $1400. Who doesn't love a bargain? 

The Portland sale is happening this weekend, but many other sales are scheduled in the next few weeks across the country. If all goes well, I'll save a ton of money and be able to afford the ice sculptures!
