I am usually a practical birthday gift kind of gal. Not, like, microwave practical, but I (usually) ask for camera equipment or clothing when my husband tells me to choose a birthday gift. (My husband is a lot of excellent things but an intuitive gift giver he is not. I usually have to be extremely specific with what I want for gifts. I'm not complaining, I just feel like I need to clarify our situation. I'm not a brat, I swear! This just works best for us.)
I'm turning 30 next week and I feel like my 30th birthday deserves a bit of indulgence. I told my husband I want this ring:
It's beautiful and simple and exactly my taste and ... not in the least bit practical. I don't need a ring for my 30th birthday but I want this ring. My husband, bless his heart, told me I should ask for something useful.
Are you a practical gift buyer? Or do you go for the luxurious gifts? What about your own birthday? Do you ask for useful gifts or extravagant ones?

It's beautiful, classic, and not prohibitively expensive. I say go for it!

I love it. But then again, I am more of a luxury birthday gift type of person!

I do a lot of asking for exactly what I want for gifts too. I like that much better because then I always get something that I am delighted with.
I usually go for a mix between practical and luxury for gifts. Like last Christmas, I asked for kitchen drawer organizers, which is practical, but I wanted (and got, from my lovely mother) the really expensive, pretty bamboo ones. And they are very functional, but their fanciness makes me happy whenever I open that drawer.

I used to be a practical kind if girl, but now I want the little luxuries. I strongly hinted to my husband around our anniversary for a pair of Links earrings-I LOVE them LOTS. This is your 30th birthday, you should get something fancy and fun and what's better than getting something from one of those little blue boxes?!

I love it! I am ALSO turning the big 3-0 next week, and I've asked my man-friend for a indulgent gift too. I feel like gifts should be something you wouldn't ordinarily buy for yourself on a whim. Something you'll feel giddy about opening. Enjoy your birthday, and hopefully your new ring!

I am practical to a fault! But, I did ask for a receive a ring for my 30th birthday and I am still wearing it almost FIVE years later. Ouch.
Your husband should get you the gift you want!

Get what you like! It's your birthday and it's a milestone birthday. I waver between practical and indulgent depending on the year. And I also need to be very specific with my husband but he says it makes it easy for him so it works for both of us.

I am also a fan of this ring. I stink at receiving gifts in general, so I neither ask or hint, etc. But I definitely believe in celebrating birthdays and marking them with meaningful items. GO FOR THE RING! :)

If you are generally practical, I think 30 is a GREAT time to go indulgent. I am the same way and I almost never ask for things I don't *need*. But my husband surprised me with a Tiffany necklace one Christmas and it was something I'd never ask for, and I LOVE it. All women need a few pieces of great jewelery that they love, even the most practical amoung us. Do it!
