Last week I asked for your opinions about the Ergo Baby Carrier and WHOA did you deliver. Most everyone loves their Ergo, which was good to hear.
HOWEVER, not many of you loved your Ergo AND matched my body type, which made me pause. The problem I've had with other carriers has been my body type so....I wondered if an Ergo was truly right for me. Then Arwen suggested the Beco Gemini and an entirely new world of baby carriers was opened up to me.
I am not sure if you know Arwen, but she has four kids and, well...she knows things about baby things. Really, if I had just one phone a friend option for parenting questions? I would call Arwen.
Anyway, Arwen loves her Beco Gemini. She loves it over her Ergo AND she matches my body type, which makes the Beco Gemini verrrrry interesting to me.
The Beco Gemini is really similar to the Ergo in style and type of baby carrier. In Arwen's words,
The Ergo is fine, but don't buy it. Buy a Beco Gemini instead. You can put the baby in it from birth, you can wear the straps crossed if you want to (better for people with narrow shoulders), and the head-support hood thing is great. (I always felt like my little babies kind of flopped in the Ergo, even with infant insert.)
Yes, it is more expensive than the Ergo, but it is LESS expensive than Ergo + infant insert, so you come out ahead if you want to use it from the beginning. (Which you do! Your back will thank you!) I always liked my Ergo, but it is DEAD TO ME now that I have the Gemini.
I'm pretty sure I just added a Beco Gemini to my Christmas list.

I read your post last week and all the comments, and I too decided to add the Gemini to my Wish List instead of the Ergo. (I had a Bjorn the first time around and maybe used it three times - just wasn't comfy.) It just seemed to make more sense (no infant insert, plus forward and back-facing options), and now that I read Arwen's comment - even better! Thanks for asking the question!

I also the Beco and I wore it first with my daughter and then my son. Worth the investment, plus it comes in the most darling prints! :)

And it is soooo pretty! I got the Amy print and I want to wear it everywhere.

I somehow missed your original post but I'm very busty (38G or so while nursing) and I love my Ergo (which has a head support hood btw). That being said I'm mostly posting because I wanted to let you know about this website which has a baby carrier trial program for both

I have a Gemini this time around and so far I like it. The downsides for me compared to the Ergo are no built in pocket and the clips have really annoying safety buttons that force you to use two hands to undo them. To get it off from around my waist I have to set the baby down, unclip, then pick the baby up again to nurse, sooth, protect from the toddler, etc. Though sometimes the safety clips don't work so I can get it off easily...but then they're not doing their job.
However, I love, love, love that I can cross the straps. It's so much more comfortable that way (I have ridiculously narrow shoulders). I also love that it doesn't need an insert, fits the baby from birth, and that the headrest functions well. So while it's close I think the Gemini works best for me. If they add a pocket and fix the design of their clips they will be a miracle baby carrier.
