So, the big news around here is that the five year old in our house recently started Kindergarten. For reasons I am not entirely clear on, there's no parking lot for drop off and pick up, which means that four times a day I have to park on the street and walk a few blocks to the school. This means that my tolerance for really high heels I can barely walk in is diminishing at a rapid rate. I'm not the type who can gracefully saunter down the sidewalk in four-inch heels. I am instead the type who will fall on my ass in front of all the other kindergarten parents and have to hide my face in shame for the rest of the year.
So, I am looking for comfy cute shoes that I can wear this winter. It's going to start raining, although it's not going to start snowing. I've been giving these Toms wedges the side eye for some time now, but I'm having trouble pulling the trigger. Do you think I can wear these all year long? Do you think these would look weird with tights? Do you have a Toms wedge horror story (like Manda's) or a Toms wedge success story? (If I do end up buying them, I will for sure purchase them straight from Nordstrom because I've heard enough about bad customer service from Toms/shoes separating from the sole/hard to fit sizes that I want to buy them from somewhere that has good customer service and easy returns.)
The more I see them, though, the more I think they're a summer shoe. I'm not sure how useful they're going to be in January, so maybe I should just wait until next spring. Opinions? Ideas? Suggestions?

I think the shoes are cute, but I'm totally against tights with open toed shoes. I'm rigid that way. ;-) I also found the Tom's wedges to be HIDEOUSLY uncomfortable. Like I couldn't stand to wear them for even a few minutes. I bet you could find a closed toe wedge or even a wedge boot for winter.

I am still kicking myself for not buying them a half size up. I think they'd be great year-round in Cali! Go for it. I'll try them again ... maybe I'll ask for a pair for Christmas. :)

I have them and they are definitely a summer shoe-both in fabric and look. I'd say go for a wedged soemthign with closed toes. But, I'm with the first commenter-I am anti tights/hose and open toe shoes.

I have a pair of Toms wedges that I adore, I did have to go up a half size in them. (what IS it with the different sizing? ugh) As for wearing them with tights, that's a no for me personally. And I feel they are more a spring, summer, into fall shoe, but definitely not winter. :-D That being said, you should totally get a pair, they're ridiculously comfortable.

For me it is the cork that does it. A cork wedge is summer only, IMHO. I'm not totally against tights with open toes, but I think it takes a very particular fashion-y kind of overall look to do it well, and I don't think Tom's wedges fit that. What about a wedge ankle boot/bootie. I hate myself for even typing that sentence but there seems to be a ton of cute ones for fall, and no one is more surprised to be saying that than me.

I definitely agree with the previous comments, no cork in the fall and no open toe with tights. What about a riding boot? They go with everything, are sturdy in the rain/sleet/snow, and always look chic.
I've heard good things about these: http://www.caphillstyle.com/capitol/2012/9/11/10th-commandment-september-11.html

If you want a shorter boot I like these: http://www.caphillstyle.com/capitol/2012/9/13/10th-commandment-september-13.html

I don't think I dig open toe shoes and opaque tights. And the cork is too summery. Seems akward. Also, I have tree friends with Tom's wedges horror stories. Blisters, never comfy, and falling apart.
