After being in our new home for two months now, I have finally pulled the trigger to replace the 1970's? 80's? curtains hanging in our family room. All three windows, including the sliding glass door, are different sizes. At least the curtains are matching, but each are cut to fit a specific sized window.
Now, not knowing much about curtain etique, I consulted my two favorite ladies, Elizabeth and Christina, and asked all sorts of (probably annoying) questions about curtains. I had a certain style in mind and sent my findings to both of them.
I needed something with a blackout shade since the family room is the biggest room in our house and gets lots of sun. I also needed a color that wasn't too loud since my Flor carpet brings enough design to the room on its own.
I found these linen/cotton blend curtains from Pottery Barn that's texture adds a little something extra to my muted color choice. Both of the girls suggested I purchase every curtain for the windows in the same size even though the windows are different sizes.
I was wanting something that would be easy to open and close on a daily basis, so I chose to have my curtains hung with rings. I specifically chose the ones that are ring/ring above. I figured having the curtains threaded with the rings might give them more strength to stay put when little people pull on them for entertainment!
And as far as curtain rods go, I really like the rustic looks to these. Plus they have to ability to be pulled all the way to the sides for that extra coverage.
Now, all I need is the time and the patience to hang these bad boys without leaving too many extra holes behind. Wish me luck!
