I *think* I have finally convinced my husband to buy a new dining table and chairs. We've had our current set since our early days together as a couple and it fit in our modern loft condo pretty nicely. We have since moved from the modern loft condo into a charming, vintage (cough*old*cough) house that is much lighter, brighter and tighter in dining space. So it's time to sell our current set and buy new. To say I'm excited is an understatement.
Here is our current set:
It's in near perfect condition but just really black and too heavy for our house. I'm looking to create a lighter, more collected feel...something a little rustic, a little industrial, a little cottage. I really like the trestle-leg tables that are popping up all over the place lately. Here is what I'm thinking:
Arcadia Extension Table, World Market, sale $599
Or this, which is a little smaller and less heavy wood:
Jackson Table, World Market, sale $265
Now for the chair options:
Classic Thonet Bentwood, free; I have four of these chairs already that I would
paint a light gray or ivory to balance out the darker table.
Crate and Barrel Folio Chair in Oyster Leather, $249
Overstock Euro Design Bonded Leather Chair, set of 4 $370
Overstock Tabouret Chairs, set of 4 $175
Or, do I paint the current chairs I have a white? Or keep the black table and buy new white chairs? Can you tell I want a darker table and lighter chairs? Help me decide!

Paint the bentwood ones! And then sew fabric covers for your leather end chairs. If you bring in a print it will change the whole room and you'll have that mix you are hoping for.

I like the first table because it has the extension option. And you might as well paint the ones you have to see if you like the dark/light contrast in person before you splurge on all new chairs. (Also, love the plate grouping on your wall! I need to do that to my dining room . . .)
