We are now two weeks out from moving in to our new house. The floors are all in on the bottom floor and now it's time for us to paint.
Well, it's time for my husband to paint. I get to watch the kids like I do every other day of the week, but I also am getting my haircut this weekend. Priorities, people.
We moved into our current house with every room already painted, so this time around, it's like the very first time to paint for us. We have no idea what we're doing, so I headed to the internet to get some wise advice. Luckily, people like Elizabeth and Christina emailed me and posted links to exactly what I was looking for.
First up. The color gray.
I am drowning in khaki, red and green in our adorable house, so I wanted a change. I didn't know which gray to choose from since there are 17,000 different grays that all look quite similiar. I found this "Best Gray Paint colors according to Ryan Gosling" post written by Emily Henderson to be a riot and spot on for my current needs. (Who doesn't love staring at RG for hours at a time, anyway?)
From this list, I chose:
Oyster Shell for our great room
and Timber Wolf for the dining room right next door.
Another great blog I used to inspire me is by Courtney from A Thoughtful Place. She uses khaki paint for her living room with great accents of blues, yellows and reds.
I didn't pick her exact color, based on my issues for darker khaki, so I chose
Frappe for the living room next to the dining room.
(And YES, this is khaki, but I've got to have it somewhere, right?)
She uses this amazing blue for her bedroom, so I chose
Smoke for the master bedroom as well.
And I am going out on a limb and paint the boys' room yellow. My oldest son has his current room yellow and we really like the overall color. I chose a different hue, but we didn't want to paint theirs' blue since the rest of the house looks like a giant rain cloud in the sky. So, yellow it is.
Winter Sunshine is yellow, but with a good amount of cream in it.

The paint goes up starting tomorrow night, so wish us luck that it all goes according to my master plan/my crazy whim.
Also, if you have any questions or suggestions for me, feel free to comment!!

I read a post recently I saw pinned that a lady had done where she picked out her 100 favorite Benjamin Moore colors. I wrote down a few that inspired me. Silver Fox was the gray that I liked. I've never used a BM color before but went there yesterday and fell in love with Caribbean Azure which I will probably be painting my guest room. All of the other rooms in my house have been painted with Behr Ultra Primer + Paint. I love that paint and it's at least $10/gallon cheaper than the BM stuff. I will probably try and see if Home Depot can color match this one we like.
