My daughter is turning seven this week, and getting her birthday gifts was hard. Seven year old girls can be surprisingly hard to shop for - too old for so many things and too young for so many others. Here's what's on the list for mine:
The Punisher Cherry Blossom Complete Skateboard. Hey, she wants a skateboard, go figure. We looked at the princess-y ones but the reviews weren't so good and this one is pink and awesome but is still called the "punisher." Sold.
A couple of Lego Friends sets. Dear Lego, why did it take you so long to make girl Legos? Girls like Legos too, but are less interested in building space destroyers. My daughter has a couple of these already and loves them, so for her birthday we found our Mia the Skateboarder Mia set. Sold again.
A bunch more Glee music. She already has some and listens to it all the time, so we will be filling out her collection. I'm in favor of this particular obsession, because I get to pick only the songs I like and the Glee versions are very accessible to her, plus she is exposed to lots of new music in a familiar way. It does lead to many, many conversations along the lines of "Mom, listen! This is a Glee song!" "No dear, this is the Beatles."
The Tromso loft bed with desk, plus some curtains that hang from the ceiling and hide just the bed part. I like how much space this will add to her bedroom, and that with the curtains it can be a kind of updated canopy bed without having an actual canopy that just hangs around collecting dust.
