When I say an app that works, what I mean is an app that works FOR me, not against me. I've been searching for a grocery list/recipe/meal plan app that has great functionality, can be synced across multiple devices, and is simple to use. What I've discovered is ZipList and I'm slightly obsessed.
ZipList is integrated with many recipe sites so you can clip recipes straight to your list, automatically populating your grocery list with the ingredients you need (and with a clever feature that assumes you probably have things like salt and pepper already on hand so it doesn't clutter your list), and add the recipes to your meal plan in seconds. I can even add my own recipes!
I can sort my list by store, by aisle, by item, however I want. I can add or delete items at the touch of a button. Once you use the app a few times you start to see what you buy often and you can save those items to a master list that populates for you. It takes a little time on the front end to load your recipes or clip them from around the web but once you have a few weeks' worth of recipes you won't believe how easy it is to make your meal plan. (Truth: having a meal plan keeps me on budget and focused when I'm at the store. Truth: this makes me husband happy and has cut down on the "we need to talk about the grocery spending" discussion.)
I think the meal plan feature is my very favorite. Since I work out of the home, figuring out what to make for dinner every night starts stressing me out around noon. As soon as I started using ZipList to manage our meal plan I stopped feeling that dreaded anxiety everyday wondering if I have this ingredient or that ingredient or if I'll need to make a quick 5pm run to the grocery.
I just really love this app, probably more than any other out there. It has truly simplified my daily life and removed some of the stress related to feeding my family everyday. Oh, and did I mention that it's FREE? I told you it was awesome. Find it in the iTunes app store and the Android app store.
