So, this Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain came out a few weeks ago, and right away everyone noticed that it looks JUST LIKE Tarte Lipsurgence Lip Stain, except that the Tarte stuff is $24 at Sephora and the Revlon stuff is $8 at Target. I have a Tarte Lipsurgence already and I love it, so I rushed right out and bought the Revlon stuff so I could compare the two, because wow is $24 for lip gloss hard for me to swallow (and that's, in fact, why I only own one LipSurgence even though I really like it).
Also, FYI, the first time I looked for the Revlon Just Kissable stuff, Target was completely sold out of it, but the next time I went (last week) they had a decent selection of colors.
Anyway.
Here's the Tarte Lipsurgence:
And here's the Revlon version:
So, yes, they look exactly the same.
Looks aside, I'd say they are very, very similar. They both have a minty smell and taste, and, interestingly, when I first bought my Tarte Lip Stain, I almost wrote an angry letter to Sephora because I thought it REEKED of cigarette smoke, and I think maybe it's just me and something about that minty smell, because the Revlon stuff also smells a lot like cigarette smoke to me.
The coverage is about the same. If anything I'd say the Revlon balm goes on slightly more matte, and the Tarte stain goes on a little more sheer and shiny, like a gloss, but I also have two different colors so it could just be a matter of pigmentation. I think the Revlon stuff does go on a little more diffused around the edges of my lips, and I have to be more careful when it goes on, but as a lip stain, I think it actually lasts longer than the Tarte. If you like the Lipsurgence stuff, I'd see no reason why you wouldn't like the Revlon stuff, especially at a third of the price.
