In a perfect world, my child would be entertained simply by seeing all that there is to see in the grocery store. He would be captivated by the colors and shapes, and the cereal aisle alone would blow his five year old mind. Unfortunately, in the world I live in, my kids immediately start demanding snacks and entertainment the moment I walk into a store with a list in hand.
Once the snacks are gone, out comes my iPhone. For a long time I wouldn't even let them look at my phone, but my how the times have changed.
Here's a list of a few of our favorites apps for the Iphone:
This free app for both the iPhone and iPad gives you a ton of different courses through which to navigate a frisbee. You can control the app with the touch screen, or by tilting your phone side to side. Kids earn points which they can cash in for new courses. This is one app you'll want to be sure to have the in-app purchase option turned OFF, because there are constant offers for new Frisbees and courses - all for a fee.
This app is also free and has a collection of clips and full episodes from a number of PBS Kids shows. There's a lot of selection and this app is easy for my two year old to navigate. My one complaint about this app is that if your internet connection isn't great, you're going to drop your connection to the streaming video a lot.
There are several books available including Elmo's Birthday, 1,2,3 Sesame Street, and The Fix-It Shop, each for $1.99. You can choose to read along with the book yourself, or have it narrated to you. There are also coloring pages available.
Of course, my son also proves his superiority in all versions of Angry Birds, and his newest favorite: Where's My Water.
What apps do you and your kids love?
