Do you read the New Uses for Old Things feature in Real Simple magazine? Basically, you learn how to repurpose everyday items in surprising ways that can save you time and money. It's one of my very favorite columns in the magazine and I just discovered that the website has over 700 of these new uses posted. They are all categorized so you can view Beauty New Uses, Cleaning New Uses, Travel-Related New Uses, and so on.
Here are a few of my favorites:
To keep a set of earrings together on your next overnight jaunt, fasten them to a button so they won’t get lost in your suitcase pocket.
For tangle-free jewelry during your travels, unclasp the chain, thread it through a plastic drinking straw, and reclasp.
Stop tweezers from going astray by installing a magnet on the inside of the medicine cabinet.
Coat the bottom of a shaving-cream can to fend off rust rings on the ledge of the tub.
Aren't these great? There are hundreds of more ideas--using everything from accordian files to zippered baggies--at Real Simple. For some additional favorite ideas, check out the 50 All-Time Favorite New Uses for Old Things.
