For as long as I can remember, Easter baskets have been a big thing at my house. My parents would hide them and my sister and I would have to hunt for them in our house and in our yard, and they were always chock full of fun things. They had candy eggs, sure, but we also always had a few special things, too, and I'm carrying on those traditions with my girls.
First of all, it's already warm in the south, and we always received our first bathing suit for the year in our Easter baskets. I've been eyeing this one from Mini-Boden for my girls:
Or maybe this one? Again, Mini-Boden. (Also, 35% percent off this one right now!)

I don't usually dress my girls alike, but I bend that rule for swimwear; frankly, if we're at the beach, I only have to look for one pattern to recognize my kids in a crowd, and I think that's a good thing.
They also get their sandals for the year in their baskets. We are straight-up Saltwater Sandal people at our house, and thie year they're getting the champagne color.

Aside from those big-ticket items, we do an assortment of filled candy eggs and regular dyed hard-boiled eggs, and usually a book or two. Can I recommend what is possibly the my favorite kids' Easter book ever? I mean this more in the "Easter bunny" sense, rather than the church/religious sense, but the story is just beautiful and translates so well to teaching kids how to be good people and what is really important.
It's called "The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes," and not only will the story make you smile, but the illustrations are just gorgeous.

Any other ideas about what to put in Easter baskets? Please share!

The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes is one of my favorite books, ever. Felicity got a copy in her Easter basket last year and even though she was way young for it conceptually, she loves the book and its illustrations. I will definitely be reading it to her this week as the holiday approaches again!
Also, instead of candy (she's only two), her plastic eggs will be filled with loads of cute felt Easter stickers (from Michael's), plus I got her some other Easter-themed books to go in her basket.

I did a beach towel for Isla last year and this year we're doing some Elmo themed items since he is very big in our house right now. I also like to throw in a book with the candy and other little trinkets like bubbles and water toys.

Love that book and the swimsuit idea. Our boys get new toothbrushes in their baskets (with plenty of candy too and plastic eggs with a few quarters).
Btw, Swistle had a great tutorial for getting rid of Amazon's "Look inside" graphic.
