My little sister had her first baby last month, a gorgeous little girl. She's currently enjoying her maternity leave, but this summer she'll be heading back to work, and her husband will be stepping into the role of stay-at-home dad.
They're still on the hunt for the perfect diaper bag for him. I couldn't resist splurging and getting my sister an adorable bag that she can carry to work (half off of the outlet price at the Kate Spade outlet last fall, woo!), but dad needs a bag, pronto.
Here are some handsome contenders that fit the bill for style and function:
Diaper Dude Messenger I in Grey Pinstripe, $65
Diaper Dude Messenger II in Grey, $98
Skip Hop Via Messenger in Black, $80
Columbia Baby Backpack with Ripstop Trim, $139.99
Scout by Petunia Pickle Bottom Satellite Sling, $99
And one tremendous splurge, in lovely distressed leather:
Scout by Petunia Pickle Bottom Rubicon Rucksack in Distressed Black Leather, $271

I recently saw the Petunia Picklebottom creators speak. Great company--and love their products!

I've had the Skip Hop Via before and it did NOT wear well. The fabric freyed very badly on all the edges and looked horrible in a couple months. I wouldn't recommend it.

Thanks for that information, craftyashley! Surprising for Skip Hop, which tends to hold up well from what I've seen, but VERY good to know if there's an outlier. What a bummer.

My husband got the diaper dude messenger 5+ years ago & it quickly became both of our favorite bag. Not too big, enough pockets, fits/lays well when worn. Got rid of the others & it's still going strong now with the 2nd kid.

I wouldn't recommend the Columbia backpack. The features are awesome and it's the perfect size, but it doesn't hold up well. The zippers fall off, and the fabric frays to the point of creating holes. I've purchased 2 in the past year, thinking the first one was just a fluke. But the second one had issues within a month. I do use it every day as my diaper bag/purse but it's not like I'm camping with it every single day or playing catch with it! At the rate it's falling apart, I'll be looking for a new diaper bag in a few weeks. It might last longer as a "dad" diaper bag that would only be used a few times a week. (By the way, the price is about $60 at Babies R Us.)
