I used to be a gal that wore her hair down a good portion of the time, but this past year has provided few opportunities to pull out the hair dryer, flat iron or curling iron.
Wait, that's not entirely true. I am sure there is time, if I make time for it, but I have chosen things like sleeping, eating and going to the bathroom by myself during what little free time I have. Hey, I might even throw in a shower here and there just to change things up a bit.
I KID, but I am not too far off.
So, what do I do? Well, when I do make that special time to actually shower, I put my hair in a bun and I am off. It's cute, it lasts all day, takes little time and all you need is a hair band. I've actually have had a lovely gal and her mother stop me at brunch one morning and ask how I did my hair! Not bad, eh?
Below I have shown you the basic steps to achieving your own knot bun. (There may be plenty of tutorials out there, but I randomly figured out how to do this to my hair way back when, so I thought I'd share with you my version.)
(And yes, you do need a decent length of hair for this, but it doesn't have to be super long! If you have shorter hair, you just make your initial loop smaller, so less hair is pulled through to create the loop.)
I make my bun when my hair is wet, mostly out of convenience, but if you do do yours dry, you might want to wet your ponytail and ends so you will have a smooth knot. Less fly aways.
1) Put your hair in a ponytail, but only wrap the band around twice.
2) On the third wrap, only bring your ponytail through enough for the beginnings of a loop as shown in photo two.
3) Once you've gotten your loop in place, take the rest of your ponytail, twist it entirely going counter-clockwise and take it up over your loop on the right side. Wrap the hair all the way around the loop until the very end of your ponytail is now under your loop. Tuck the remaining part of your hair into the hair band that was used to wrap the loop in the first place.
And, there you have it! A nice, neat, knot bun!

Just tried it and my hair is too short.
Sad trombone. :(
(But it's totally cute on you and I look fwd to trying it when my hair is longer!)
