Ben Howard's debut album Every Kingdom is relaxed and folksy but it isn't just another collection of campfire/surfer dude strum-along songs. His lyrics are wistful and full of soul, but he doesn't rely on dulcet melodies to carry his tunes; he backs them up with extremely talented, complex technical guitar playing.
His sound is unique yet recognizable, like what might happen if Jose Gonzalez, Xavier Rudd, and Ray LaMontagne got together and made a sweet little acoustic guitar-playing baby.
Ben Howard is playing a few shows in the US and Canada in March and April so get your tickets if you're lucky enough to live in a city his tour hits (I'm not. Boo!)
