I know you think it's took early for this kind of topic, but really, it's not too early. (It's not! I swear! Stop rolling your eyes.) I mean, I bought my baby a Halloween costume today. One of my favorite Etsy shops is stocking up on Halloween accessories. Walmart has an entire aisle stocked with candy. It might be too early to follow through on these ideas, but it's not too early to start planning.
My approach to the fall/Halloween/autumn/Thanksgiving season is to decorate once and be done with it. Pumpkins let me do this pretty cheaply and they come in all sizes, shapes and colors (I am particularly fond of the tiger-striped pumpkins). They're nice as mother nature created them, but pumpkins are super versatile and very forgiving when it comes to crafty ideas. (If you ruin the pumpkin mid-craft? Go buy another pumpkin!) Also? If you end up cracking open a pumpkin, pepitas for everyone when you're finished!
Ideas in my consideration set this year:
Spray painted pumpkins
This gold pumpkin with house numbers is just FABULOUS, isn't it? I might even get a fake plastic pumpkin and do this so I can keep it for next year. Pumpkins in non-pumpkiny colors might also be fun. Hot pink!

Pumpkins as planters
Cute, cute cute. I need to go buy some mums.

Mini pumpkins on the table
I love this. It's simple and colorful and keeps those pumpkins in one place where tiny hands can't redistribute them around my house.

This isn't so much a decor idea but ... BABY IN A PUMPKIN!
If you have a baby handy this fall? Put the baby in a pumpkin. Maybe invite some people over to see the Baby In A Pumpkin. Really, who would say no to that party?

I did the pumpkin-as-planter last fall, and while it really does look fantastic...I skipped the part in the magazine I was reading about lining the pumpkin with plastic before filling it with dirt, and I had rotted pumpkin mush within a week. So, definitely don't skip that part if you try it!

Decorating with pumpkins is one of my favorite things about fall, but we've had issues in the past with the squirrels helping themselves to our front porch decor. Have you seen any realistic-looking artificial pumpkins anywhere that are suitable for use outdoors? (I've been looking at Pottery Barn, Grandin Road, Ballard Designs, and the like.)

I may steal a baby just to put them in a pumpkin and take a picture.
