When it comes to toys for my three and a half year old, I'm picky. Aren't we all?
I'd rather he sat down and played with his trains, his cars, 'read' books, hide out in the fort under his bed with his flashlight. Things that take some imagination. We let him watch movies and TV, but truthfully I discourage it. So when just about everyone we knew recommended the Leapster 2 for Christmas, I was dubious to say the least. I didn't want him sitting and playing, tuned out and oblivious to the world around him.

I researched, I read and finally decided that we would give it a try. From the start, we've let him play twice per day for twenty minutes at a time. When the timer goes off, he gives it up until he wants to play again. If the rules get broken, he forefits his time.
He LOVES it. I love it.
He's learning manual dexterity, he's learning how to not get frustrated and keep trying, he's learning easy math and Leapster tracks it all for me. We plug it into the computer and I can see what he's doing, what he is learning, which are his favorites, and I have to say, it's brilliant.
Do your kids have one? What are their favorite games?

My girls love their leapster 2 (had to get one for the 2 yr old at christmas to stop her from stealing big sisters).
Sadly, their favorite game seems to be the drawing pad that comes pre-installed. I like the Leapster Kindergarten game and otherwise it's pretty much all princesses (although they are educational).

I really looked at this for Christmas for my 2.5 year old, and it's on the birthday list. Good to hear such positive things about it!

Both of my kids LOVE their Leapsters. Madie's broke, but Jack still gets a ton of good out of it. His favorite--Puzzled. It's a great game for patterns, memory, matching etc. We have a ton of them--I'd be happy to share/let you borrow to make sure he's interested or likes it. Let me know and I'll send you a list.
