Even though I'm 36 weeks pregnant today, it finally started to get hot here in the Central Valley and I had to break down and buy some summer maternity clothes. I must confess I was somewhat terrified by the concept of maternity shorts, but I was pleasantly surprised by most of my options, and after spending three months wearing sweat pants and my husbands t-shirts, having a few new nice brightly colored things was a huge boost to my self esteem.
Because you just never know how things are going to fit and work together, I opted to order EVERY SINGLE THING I thought could work from the Gap and Old Navy, and then to return whatever stuff I didn't like. A couple of the shirts I ordered weren't maternity shirts, just a size up from what I usually wear in the regular women's section, and they all fit just fine.
Here's what I ended up keeping:
Cuffed Scoop Neck T from The Gap
Perfect V Neck Sweater (Probably my favorite thing I ordered and an insanely good deal.)
TWO Long Perfect Tanks to wear under all this stuff, because every single maternity shirt ever made is low cut, a v neck, or a combination of the two.
I ordered six or seven pairs of shorts, but most of the ones I ended up liking and keeping were the more expensive ones from the Gap versus the cheaper ones from Old Navy. I got mine on sale for 30% off plus another $10 off for signing up for some maternity related email, but even still, I'd rather have two or three pairs of higher quality shorts I actually like than a bunch of cheap sort of meh pairs, so in this case I felt ok spending a bit more on these.
Maternity Real Waist Patchwork Shorts (These have an adjustable elastic waist and the description says "Ideal for the first six months", but I found them to be surprisingly perfect for 36 weeks - they stay up and are really comfy.)
Demi Panel Bermuda Shorts. I love these so much they make me sad that they're maternity shorts - I haven't found a pair of regular shorts this cute and comfy maybe ever.)
Demi Panel Denim Cutoffs. There's nothing "cut off" about these, but they're also super cute and comfy. Love!

Seeing as how I'll be uncomfortably pregnant in those hottest of the summer months, I am so investing in that adorable pair of madras shorts. So cute!

I was lent a LOT of maternity clothing and it makes me sad that it's cuter than my regular clothing.

I went out and did the 3rd tri/summer run this week myself. Oy, there's nothing cute about this part. I opted for dresses and t-shirts only and of course a new pair of shoes which seems to be the only thing that keeps me feeling like me when things are THIS BIG.
I love that green v-neck and really need a couple more under tanks- going to check those links right now! Thanks.
