I am so excited for all things spring and summer. You can find me pawing through catalogs and magazines, dog-earring pages of wish-list items, and clicking through websites with my mouse hovering greedily ready to buy, buy, buy. I fell in love with this slouchy canvas sandal, which I think will pair nicely with skinny jeans for spring and Bermuda shorts for summer. The trouble is picking between these two pair.
Pair 1: Steve Madden Genevvaa $69.95
Pros: Love the leather straps going all the way around the ankle and the studs on the straps. So cute!
Cons: Not in love with the color, which will VERY CLOSELY match my white, pasty legs. I prefer the olive color of the Urban Outfitter pair, below. Also, these are $20 more.

Pair 2: Urban Outfitters Deena & Ozzy Canvas Wrap Sandal $48
Pros: LOVE the olive color because it will look nice with dark jeans and won't be so matchy-matchy against my oh-so-white legs. Also? $20 cheaper than the Steve Madden pair! Score!
Cons: I wish there were leather straps around the ankles and leather studs to liven up the sandal a little. This looks a little like a cobbled together Nomad shoe as opposed to a fashion-y sandal.

What do you think, Style Lushies? I'm pretty strongly leaning towards #2 because, REALLY, nobody will notice the canvas and will just think I have CANKLES if I wear #1 -- so close will the color match my skin. And we cannot have that, can we? What do you think?

I actually like the first better.

I hear you on the pasty leg issue but the first pair is my choice. I think the second pair looks more like a sock with a sandal, which, yikes! I think the strap going all the way around makes is much cuter.

Maura! nooooooo!

I'm sorry Maura, but I've got to back Crist up on this one... I just cannot support a sandal with an attached sock!! It's the summer equivalent of ankle boots with a peep-toe!

What is the point of these? To each his own, but these make no sense. Do your ankles get chilly, but not your toes?

I'm jumping on the no bandwagon. I don't think any color will prevent the illusion of cankles.

Haha. I love you all for your honesty. I don't know if I will rethink my decision, but maybe I will model them and post pictures and you all can see the style-tastrophe. Cankles-ho!

Sorry Maura, but these look like sandals with a personality disorder (or identity crises at the least).

Well, you asked for opinions, so here goes:
As far as things around the ankle, I prefer "straps" rather than "slouch." Like these: http://is.gd/afHKl
http://is.gd/afHPA
I also prefer a heel/wedge with these funkier typed ankle strapped shoes because it pushes the top of your foot up and makes your legs look longer, rather than laying flat on the ground and making you look chopped off at the ankle.
But, if you are set on flat, I'd recommend these three options:

http://is.gd/afIS6

Because they expose a bit of skin and the straps are thin and graceful while still looking structured and strappy.

Good lord child. I love you and all but those sandals are nine kinds of wrong.
But you know I also hate booties, gladiator shoes, and platform shoes....

Holy moly. My friend Andrea, who let me BUY the second pair (yes, I already own them, the jig is up) liked them! I feel like I am going to have to reestablish my fashion cred somehow.
Kali, I like the last two options, thanks for the suggestions. I just like how these are different and a little Boho... (not hobo, you nay-sayers). Haha.

M, you need a new friend!

I can't imagine why such a thing exists.

Hey. I sorta agree with a lot of people and don't really 'get' this sandal. I know I could never figure out how to wear them but I'm not super trendy. However, I was at Kohl's the other day and while browsing the shoes, I thought of you. I swear they had these in green at the store but I only see them in brown and black online. http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/crosssells/shoes/sandals/womens/PRD~582572/Simply+Vera+Vera+Wang+Masala+Gladiator+Sandals.jsp

Oh wait- I see that it is listed as "olive" and not brown. Perhaps they just look brown online but are actually olive... Interesting.
