Call me crazy, but ever since I started watching Sex And The City, I've had this silly idea of having a signature drink. You know how Carrie and the girls religiously drank cosmopolitans? I had this vision of having a drink that was uniquely me, so that if I was ever meeting a friend at the bar, they'd know exactly what to order for me, because it was my drink.
I know, I know---a little silly and pretentious, but my drunken heart wants what it wants.
I went on a bit of an adventure, trying a million different drinks and cocktails of all sorts, but I think I've finally settled on my drink: a Sidecar.
Whenever I order one, there are one of two reactions I get: "What IS that?" and "Holy cow, that's a throwback!" It definitely is an older drink, long forgotten in the age of pom-tinis and lemon drops and a million other silly drinks, but they are ridiculously delicious.
The recipe is simple: 3/4 ounce Cointreau, 3/4 ounce lemon juice and 1 1/2 ounces cognac. Shake, and serve in a martini glass that's had it's rim rubbed in lemon and dipped in sugar. I like to add a cherry because I never turn down a maraschino cherry...I just don't.
So, the next time you're looking for an easy, classy party drink, or better yet, the next time you're drinkin' with me, order a Sidecar. And I'll have one too, thanks.
Do you have a drink you swear by? Leave it in the comments...you never know how I could be swayed.

Excellent choice! The Sidecar is MY drink as well! I have strayed from time to time in the last seven-ish years, but I always come back. I am a font of interesting Sidecar facts, too: did you know that the Margarita was invented based upon the Sidecar? It replaced the cognac with tequila, the lemon with lime, the salt with sugar, etc. No wonder it is one of my OTHER favorites.

Well I love a dirty vodka martini, but I might just have to try this!

What type of cognac do you prefer?

I am a Hennessey fan, though I feel a little like The Ladies Man when I order :)

Mojito! I know it's a summer drink and they have all these fun variations, but I always still with the classic! :)

Champagne is my go-to drink. I made my life motto -- "there's always something to celebrate" -- just so I could drink champagne whenever I'd like.

It feels so cliche, but I have to stick with the cosmo. I love the way it tastes and boy does it look pretty in that martini glass. And I feel oh so sexy when I drink it =)

I always get a whiskey sour. Which, I'm told, is a very mid-western lesbian drink but - whatever. I am what I am. ;)

If I'm not drinking rose wine, then it's GOT to be a French Martini. I LOVE the frothy foam on top especially. :)

Mmm. Anything with amaretto in it. ANYTHING. I usually order an amaretto sour. When I'm at my grandparents' house my Nonno will always make me an amaretto and coke. And! Just recently I discovered the sheer bliss that is an amaretto coffee. Oh my HEAVEN!
Otherwise? Red wine.

This is easy, though I don't know what it's called. Perhaps it's not called anything and I'm free to name it. Anyways: Presidente (or some other good brandy, NOT E&J swill) over ice, a dash of tonic water, a twist of lime. Done.
I have had a long and tumultuous love affair with rum as well but I have yet to find the "it" drink for that. Perhaps it's time to head over to The Shady Lady in Sacramento with a mission?
