Two eyeshadows that have stood the test of time

When I take a look in my makeup case, there are only a couple items that have proven themselves year after year. It's not my mascara (I wish) or even my beloved black eyeliner, but rather Shroom and Satin Taupe eyeshadows by M.A.C.

Billed as a "soft beige with shimmer," Shroom is a lighter color which I typically use as a base or highlighter shade. However, I think it's dark enough to be used as a regular eyeshadow for those with a fair complexion or light-colored eyes. Plus, it's got a bit of shimmer, which gives it a little more oomph than matte-finish eyeshadows.

Satin Taupe is (obviously) taupe and M.A.C.'s website says it's got a silver shimmer to it. However, I've found that Satin Taupe looks different (in a good way) on every person. I've seen it look shimmery brown, silvery and even purple-hued. On those days when I want just a quick bit of color, Satin Taupe is always my first choice.

Both eyeshadows are $14.50 and even when used on a daily basis, only need replacing once every six months (or less!) Even though I have many, many, MANY different eyeshadows, it's these two that I come back to time and time again.

Urban Decay makes one called Mushroom which sounds similar to Mac's Shroom. This one might be a bit darker though. I also really really love Mildew by UD as well. Urban Decay is my favorite line of makeup.

my favorite is stila eyeshadow in kitten. just enough shimmer and it looks flattering on everyone!

@Carrisa: I do love Urban Decay. It seems that every holiday/birthday, I get a new UD palette as a gift, so it never occurs to me to actually go to the counter and buy an individual eyeshadow. I should check it out, for sure.

@Kat: I want to say I've used Kitten by Stila before, but I think it was in a palette and once I used it, I never replaced it. I should look into that again...

I LOVE Bare Minerals' Silk Stockings. It is such a pretty color, and it stays on great.

Also, I love love love Stila's cloud (fairly subtle gray).

I use the NARS duo called Bellisima a lot, too.
