I'm starting a new series called "In Season Now" at Style Lush and I hope to bring lots of delicious fruits and vegetables to your attention so you know what to keep your eye out for at your local farmers market or just your regular old grocery store.
It's easy to think of winter as the season of squashes and potatoes and apples because that's the stuff that keeps all year. But winter can be so much more than that - for example, November and December are when California citrus first starts getting ripe. I have a great reminder of this right outside my back door!
In addition to lemons, keep your eye out for California clementines. They used to come in those neat little wooden crates, but now I mostly see them in red mesh bags. The ones with the "Cutie" sticker are my favorite, but it's hard to buy a bad clementine this time of year. They're SO delicious, and they're also seedless, easy to peel, and full of Vitamin C. I mostly eat them three or four at a time with a cup of tea or some toast, but they're also great tossed on top of a spinach salad or juiced for an extra special breakfast treat.
Clementines should be around until the end of January, but in my experience they start becoming less delicious sometime around the first of the year.

I eat my weight in clementines every winter.
