With holiday party season quickly approaching, it is the perfect excuse to buy a new dress. Your dollar can go a long way if you know where to find good bargains or you can invest a little more in a piece that will last you for a few years.
From L to R: (top) Satin Halter Dress from Arden B. ($68), Spirited Away Dress from Anthropologie ($128), and Chain Halter Dress from Forever 21 ($27.80), (middle) Black Shimmy Sequin V-Neck Dress from Ruche ($35.99), Strapless Party Dress from Victoria's Secret (Sale $85) and Grand Cru Dress from Anthropologie ($138) (bottom) Velvet Sheath Dress from Forever 21 ($29.80), Longest Night Dress from Anthropologie ($168) and Evergreen Garland Dress from ModCloth ($62.99).
Some of the mini dresses you will find in stores like ModCloth and Forever 21 may be a little short for some more sophisticated soirees. To make them more event- (or age-) appropriate, pair them with a pair of slacks. This Lace Accent Jacquard Dress is $24.80 and the Woven Trouser Pant is $19.80. And you will get a lot of wear out of the pants as separates!
Also keep an eye out for sales that can keep prices down. Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft are offering 30% off until Sunday, November 22 when you enter the code FRIENDS at checkout. There is also free shipping on orders of $100 or more. I love these holiday looks from AT here, here and here as well as these dresses from ATL here, here and here.
So break out your egg nog a little early and do some holiday shopping for yourself. Before you know it, there will be parties for hosting, marshmallows for toasting... and you get the idea.

Love the look of pairing with pants. But I must voice a pet peeve of mine. Why does holiday wear always have minimal coverage in the chest/shoulder region??? I live in the north. It's cold this time of year. WTH fashion people? Have you ever heard of SLEEVES? (this rant is not directed at Style Lush)

Ooh, good comment, Heidi! I live in the North East and I'm always cold. I usually wear a pashmina and suffer, but I will scour the internet and see what else is available.
Any other Style Lush readers have suggestions?

I haven't been to Forever 21 in ages, but I will have to go and find that mini dress. The one benefit of being tiny is that I can pull off the mini dress without my bum hanging out!
